Scanlan Named America East Pitcher of the Week

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine sophomore pitcher Kevin Scanlan (Sudbury, Mass.) was named the America East Pitcher of the Week on Monday, May 18. He is the second Maine pitcher to earn the honor this year, as Jonathan Balentina was named America East Pitcher of the Week on March 10.

scanlanScanlan pitched a complete game in Maine's 7-1 win over Stony Brook on Friday, May 15. He allowed one unearned run on five hits. Scanlan stuck out a season-high six batters in the game, while walking just one. The next day he pitched a scoreless 10th inning where he allowed just one hit to pick up a save as Maine earned a 6-5 win. Stony Brook batters hit just .214 off Scanlan on the weekend.

Scanlan finished 6-3 on the season with a team-low 3.96 ERA. His 2.03 ERA in conference games leads America East. He ranks second in the conference in ERA in all games. Scanlan pitched 61.1 innings on the season and finished second on the team in strikeouts with 44.

The Black Bears finished 32-23 on the season.
